The Master of Tertiary Education (Management) will provide you with specialised skills and knowledge for leading and managing successfully in tertiary sector institutions.
The course draws on the latest evidence-based research in tertiary education leadership and management and is taught by leading international experts, giving you access to global expertise and perspectives.
This course is for academic leaders and senior administrative and professional managers in universities and vocational education and training institutions. This includes those in roles such as:
- Head of School
- Head of Department
- Senior Educator or Program Director
- General Manager of a faculty, school, department or unit
- Director within a faculty, school, department or unit.
Course aims
We’ve designed this course to help current leaders, and those aspiring to be leaders, to gain more confidence in leading teams, influencing policy, planning institutional strategy and managing change within institutions.
The course aims to provide concepts, insights and practical skills for leading and managing successfully in tertiary sector institutions. It offers expert perspectives on tertiary education systems, policy settings and institutional strategies in a national and international context.
Course structure
To gain the Master of Tertiary Education (Management) you must complete 100 points comprising of:
- Two core subjects,
- Four elective subjects, and
- One capstone subject.

Whether you’re an academic, an administrator or a professional manager at a university or other tertiary institution, this course will provide you with an improved capacity to lead and influence change within your institution, and enhance your management capabilities that you can apply to your current role and future roles within tertiary education institutions.

English language requirements for Coursework degree: IELTS (academic English Only) - 6.5 overall, with written 6.5 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 577 + TWE 4.5; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 79 + (Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 58 + no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 176 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill. English language requirements for Master of Philosophy: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.
