The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) is for those looking to become teachers in early childhood settings. It is also excellent training for those pursuing a career in children’s services coordination, early childhood research, policy formation, quality regulation and assessment or positions involving early intervention for children with special needs.
During the Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) course, you will engage with your experiences and grow your abilities to teach across the curriculum from birth through to eight years of age. This includes creating curriculum that supports building relationships with children, families, and communities and practising critical reflection.
As a Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) graduate you may register with the Victoria Institute of Teaching (VIT) to teach in early childhood settings with children aged birth to five years of age. The Master of Teaching will help you develop your interventionist educational skills through the Evidence-Based Teaching framework. You'll develop the professional skills to assess, diagnose and support the individual learning needs of all students, and work with learners of all abilities.
Coursework candidates must complete:
- Compulsory coursework, including a Capstone project
- 3 x electives (with the option of a Place Based Elective).
- 2 years full time
CAREERS
The Master of Teaching program will also benefit in other career areas such as government (policy reform), research and community roles. Community opportunities include children’s services coordination, youth health and wellbeing, assessment and evaluation and quality regulation and assessment.

English language requirements for Master of Philosophy: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.
