The Master of Modern Languages Education is suitable for students of all backgrounds, either with or without prior experience in the field. The course is for those who want to teach languages other than English in a range of teaching environments around the world, ranging from mainstream schools to language centres. If you’re a teacher seeking to become an accredited languages teacher in Victoria, the Master of Modern Languages Education will provide you with this recognition from the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
Course structure
Course code: MC-MLED
2 years full time or 4 years part time
200 points of coursework (with the possibility of up to 100 points of advanced standing), comprising:
- 75 points of core subjects, including a capstone component and research methods
- 50 points of education elective subjects
- 75 points of additional languages elective subjects

Depending on your studies, you may be able to teach one or more languages other than English. You'll also graduate with the skills to manage a curriculum that's culturally and linguistically appropriate to language programs and resources.

English language requirements for Coursework degree: IELTS (academic English Only) - 6.5 overall, with written 6.5 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 577 + TWE 4.5; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 79 + (Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 58 + no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 176 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill. English language requirements for Master of Philosophy: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.
