The minerals, energy, geotechnical and environmental geoscience sectors remain some of the world’s most significant industries.
To take your place in these industries, you’ll need the type of advanced, specialised knowledge that the Master of Geoscience provides.
You’ll take intensive specialised subjects in geoscience, but also round out your skill set with business and leadership subjects, all taught by leading academics and industry professionals.

You can choose your geoscience subjects from a wide range, to match your career goals. We have subject offerings across economic geology, energy, earth structure and geophysics and environmental geoscience.
Course structure
The Master of Geoscience is a 200-point course, made up of:
- Discipline subjects (75–112.5 points), including compulsory subjects and electives
- Professional skills subjects (37.5–62.5 points)
- Core practical work (50 points).
Career outcomes
Our graduates go on to work as geologists, geoscientists, geophysicists, spatial analysts, environmental scientists and consultants, conservationists, and geological surveyors.

為來自中國的學生設計 Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements for Coursework degree: IELTS (academic English Only) - 6.5 overall, with written 6.5 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 577 + TWE 4.5; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 79 + (Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 58 + no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 176 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill. English language requirements for Master of Philosophy: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.
