The Master of Food and Packaging Innovation is an inter-disciplinary degree that combines food science, entrepreneurship and innovation in product and packaging design at an advanced level with opportunities to gain industry experience through an internship with a dynamic business in the food industry.
MEET A SKILLS DEMAND IDENTIFIED BY INDUSTRY
This unique course was developed in collaboration with the food and packaging industries to fill a need for food and food packaging product developers in Australia.
Industry experts contribute to your learning as guest lecturers and as supervisors on internships, with around 20 industry speakers across food packaging subjects alone. The core of the Master of Food and Packaging Innovation is a suite of subjects which have been designed to help you obtain the knowledge and skills required to develop and market new food products, and innovative packaging designs, that meet changing consumer demands.
Gain a comprehensive understanding of inter-disciplinary food processing, product, innovation, entrepreneurship and packaging at an advanced level.
The Master of Food and Packaging Innovation is an inter-disciplinary degree that explores food processing, entrepreneurship and innovation in product and packaging design at an advanced level.
This flexible degree opens a variety of creative careers in the food industry. You could work with food tasting panels to understand how products can be improved, develop packaging that extends shelf life and transportability or take part in the development of new products. Potential careers include:
- Product development scientist: Develop and improve food products
- Packaging technologist: Identify new ways to pack and store food that are sustainable and appealing to customers
- Consumer insights specialist: Research consumer behaviour to identify product improvements or develop innovative food product ideas to meet consumer demands.

English language requirements for Coursework degree: IELTS (academic English Only) - 6.5 overall, with written 6.5 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 577 + TWE 4.5; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 79 + (Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 58 + no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 176 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill. English language requirements for Master of Philosophy: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.
