The Bachelor of Music provides advanced, pre-professional music training in five specialisations: Jazz & Improvisation, Interactive Composition and Music Performance, Composition, Musicology/Ethnomusicology.

These five specialisations develop technically advanced and experienced musicians through an immersive and practical curriculum with music core studies, music electives and complementary University breadth subjects.

Bachelor of Music students learn from some of the most committed, talented and experienced teachers in Australia and play an active part in the musical life of the University and the city of Melbourne.

The Jazz & Improvisation specialisation reflects our long history and ethos of practical, intensive and performance-based musical training.

This course focuses on ensemble and individual studio-based practice with a central focus on creativity and technical skills.

The Jazz & Improvisation specialisation holds a near 40 year history ;of exceptional staff working with the finest students to create a generation of contemporary music practitioners known both nationally and internationally within the genres of jazz, world music, rock, pop, indie, funk, experimental and big band.

This specialisation celebrates its role as the custodian of Australian jazz, improvised music performance and scholarship, while embracing its status as the nation’s pre-eminent cultivator of new works drawing on the Australian Indigenous, non-Western, European and African-American jazz traditions within a culture of inclusivity that embraces diversity.

A unique studio-intensive teaching approach nurtures future musicians, crafting distinctive personal voices and developing advanced technical skills through contemporary performance practice and the creation of original compositions.

You will learn performance skills across a range of individual and ensemble performance contexts, including close performance-based collaborations with music staff. A focus on staff-student mentorship will guide you as you set forth in your career in the music industry.

為來自中國的學生設計 To be eligible for entry to an undergraduate degree you must fulfill all of the following requirements: Complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or an overseas qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12. English language requirements: TOEFL - Paper based test - a score of 577 or more including a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English. Internet based test - a score of 79 and scores of: Writing: 21, Speaking: 18, Reading: 13, Listening 13. IELTS (Academic) - an overall band score of 6.5 or more in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0. Pearson Test of English (Academic) - an overall score of between 58-64 inclusive and achieve no PTE communicative skills score below 50. Cambridge English: Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - A Cambridge English Score of 176 with no skill below 169.
