Actuaries assess, evaluate and manage the financial risks faced by individuals, organisations and governments to plan effectively for the future.
The risks assessed by actuaries can include illness, disability and death, the effects of natural disasters, and major economic or social change.
A major in Actuarial Studies in the Bachelor of Commerce will give you a firm grounding in the traditional actuarial skillset of mathematics, statistics, demography, economics, and finance.
This background, coupled with strong analytical skills, sees actuaries serving as financial advisers to a range of organisations including insurance companies, banks and other financial institutions, superannuation funds and governments.
Actuaries tackle many types of problems, most of which involve uncertainty about the future.
MAJOR STRUCTURE
In your first and second year, you will complete actuarial major prerequisite subjects as well as breadth subjects.
Your final year is comprised almost entirely of major subjects, plus your second non-mathematics breadth subject.

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) To be eligible for entry to an undergraduate degree you must fulfill all of the following requirements: Complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or an overseas qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12. English language requirements: TOEFL - Paper based test - a score of 577 or more including a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English. Internet based test - a score of 79 and scores of: Writing: 21, Speaking: 18, Reading: 13, Listening 13. IELTS (Academic) - an overall band score of 6.5 or more in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0. Pearson Test of English (Academic) - an overall score of between 58-64 inclusive and achieve no PTE communicative skills score below 50. Cambridge English: Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - A Cambridge English Score of 176 with no skill below 169.
