Combine your passion for mathematics with the skills, knowledge and practical experiences required for secondary school teaching.
This four-year dual program allows you to combine your passion for mathematics with the qualifications to become a secondary teacher. You'll benefit from a thorough preparation for your teaching areas, combined with – and informed by – professional studies in the area of education.
The education component offers school-based learning and draws on the latest research into effective teaching methods, ensuring you graduate well-prepared for secondary school teaching, or training in business or industry. It's a challenging and rewarding career, with secondary school teachers in demand worldwide.
In the mathematics component, you'll choose from a wide range of courses in mathematics and its applications. In your first year, you'll study essential topics in calculus, linear algebra and differential equations. In later years you can select from more specialised courses that emphasise new ideas in mathematics and include recent applications in coding and cryptology, mathematical physics, mathematical biology, bioinformatics and finance.
Mathematical Physics
This major focuses on the mathematical foundations of modern physical theories.
It also examines the mathematical understanding that underpins a broad range of contemporary sciences, including statistical mechanics, relativity and quantum theory. You'll learn how to understand and describe nature at its most fundamental levels.
This major not only prepares you for research in mathematical physics and related disciplines, but also fosters creativity and develops high-level skills in critical and analytical thinking, which are paramount in problem-solving.

To be offered a place in an undergraduate program, you need to have successfully completed Queensland Year 12, or a qualification equivalent to Queensland Year 12, with the required minimum entry score for the program you're interested in studying. English Language Scores: IELTS: Overall Band Score of 6.5 AND a minimum score of 6 in each sub-band of Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening; TOEFL (Internet-Based-iBT): Overall score 87 with a Writing score of 21 and Reading, Speaking and Listening scores of 19; TOEFL (Paper-based): Overall score of 570 and a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and 54 in Listening and Reading; PTE: Overall score of 64 with 60 in each communicative skills section; CAE/CPE: Overall Cambridge English Scale (CES) score of 176 with a minimum score of 169 in each skill; BE: A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all four macro skills.
