Health care across the world faces major challenges due to the increasing demands of ageing populations and the rise in long-term chronic conditions affecting physical and mental health. Strong and effective primary care (also known as family medicine or community medicine) is a key part of the solution. This programme will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to make a difference to primary health care wherever you are in the world.
WHY THIS PROGRAMME
- A unique programme to enable students to identify and implement strategies to enhance quality in primary care globally.
- Elevate the delivery of patient care: you will acquire skills to propose, develop and implement sustainable strategies, helping to address rising rates of chronic illness and complex care needs.
- Delivered online, you can follow a flexible curriculum. Study full-time or part-time, and work towards the full MSc degree or a postgraduate diploma or certificate.
- Our interdisciplinary team has expertise in health inequalities, long-term physical and mental health conditions, including: multimorbidity, treatment burden, polypharmacy, migrant health
- Sessions are led by University experts alongside contributions from internationally renowned guest speakers.
- Students come from a wide range of primary care, family, community, and internal medicine disciplines, including: doctors, nurses, pharmacists, podiatrists, managers
- those working in health care management and health policy
- Thanks to the multidisciplinary nature of the programme, you will benefit from sharing your interests and experiences with students from other health-related disciplines.
- By the end of the programme you will have all the skills you need to critically appraise evidence and apply a population approach to your work.
- As part of your research project (MSc students), you will also have the opportunity to explore novel ideas or particular areas of interest that you have, with clear academic supervision.
CAREER PROSPECTS
Graduates will have the capacity to take a lead role in primary health care and family medicine quality and development, whether in Scotland, the UK or internationally. Post-award opportunities include:
